The Walking Dead, The Hobbit series, and the Harry Potter series have all utilized mocha. If you’ve seen a big budget film or television show in the last few years, there’s a good chance you’ve seen mocha Pro at work. Now for the big one – mocha Pro 4, which Imagineer Systems says is their flagship product.
If you’re like me, having too many apps open at once slows down the system, and contributes to eye-fatigue from having a bunch of open windows on the desktop. You open it as a stand-alone product, then import the outcome into AE or FCP7, motion, etc.). The nice thing about mocha Plus 4, as well as mocha Pro 4, is that you don’t have to open it in After Effects or HitFilm. The last one, Boris Contiuum Complete, let’s you import to Avid Media Composer, Sony Vegas, and Adobe Premiere via BCC. 7, Apple Motion, HitFilm 2 Ultimate, and Boris FX’s Boris Continuum Complete. It’s also compatible with Adobe Premiere Pro CC, Apple Final Cut Pro v. It works with older versions of After Effects, all they way back to CS3. mocha Plus 4 is compatible with more than just After Effects CC. On a Mac? mocha Plus 4 is optimized for Retina display, something mocha AE CC is not. mocha Plus 4 also has a plug-in for working with lens distortion. mocha AE CC doesn’t have a 3D camera solver. The price is right for what you get with it. Have the previous version of mocha Plus, mocha AE v3? Upgrade price is $95.01. A full version of it, assuming you don’t have mocha AE bundled with the current or previous versions of After Effects, AE CC or mocha HitFilm to upgrade from, is $245.00. It’s a major step up from mocha AE CC and mocha HitFilm, in that it has more features and supports more applications. Mocha Plus used to be called mocha AE V3. Need to move it to another application? Mocha HitFilm offers HitFilm 2 Ultimate users planar tracking and the AdjustTrack module, as well as something mocha AE CC doesn’t have – a 3D camera solver. mocha AE CC has X-Spline and Bezier tools and allows for exporting color matte fills. Mocha AE CC opens in After Effects only, is locked to After Effects only – you can’t move between other software packages with it. This allows the artist to fix any drifting of the track during a difficult track, by using keyframes. The question is, do you need it?Īll four – mocha Pro, mocha Plus, mocha AE CC, and mocha HitFilm include planar tracking, as well as the AdjustTrack module. All of these allow you to upgrade to the more powerful mocha applications available for purchase. If you’re working with HitFilm 2 Ultimate, you have a basic version that comes with the package. If you have After Effects as part of CS6, CS5 or CS4 – you have a basic version that shipped with AE. If you have Adobe After Effects CC, you can download mocha AE from Adobe Creative Cloud.
